Mitox by Phill Smith

Mitox is an excellent read, Phill has a way to explain his writings in a very easy, and well-reasoned manner. His essays are extremely informative and well thought out. His essay on Top Ideas for Creating Effects, was very helpful for me in working to create my own effects and how to routine them. Throughout this manuscript, I have come across so much great easy to follow the material. Equifinque and left brain/write brain are quick routines but very strong and well thought-out. However, there are other effects, that require much more effort, but if your willing to put the effort in you can create miracles if your willing to put the time into learning and working through the system, thumbscrews book test is one of those. Thanks, Phill for this great work, well-done sir.

Phill Smith is a graphic designer by trade, and you tell straight away by the quality of the design of this book. This was something I used to overlook, but there have been many books that I struggled through due to the layout, quality of pictures / illustrations and overall feel.

In terms of the writing , Phill almost has a conversation style of writing which makes the book easy to read and understand.

The book is a mix of essays and effects which is something I look for. It's always nice to read the thoughts (pun intended) of a seasoned professional as well as to understand their approaches to mentalism

The effects themselves are straight forward and hard hitting, suitable for stage, parlour and close up. Personal favourites of mine are 'Left brain / write brain' and 'Signature Effect'. 'Equifinque' is also a great ice breaker and a lot of fun.

This whole series by Phill Smith is worth a read, and where better to start than the first one!
